Cats, Jets top adapted softball squad

The New Prague Trojan adapted softball team lost two games last week. The Trojans have a 1-5 record on the season, and were scheduled to play at Minneapolis Tuesday, May 3. They will travel to St. Paul Humboldt on Thursday, May 5, and host two games next week, Tuesday, May 10, against Chaska/ Chanhassen/Shakopee/ Prior Lake and Thursday, May 12, against Dakota United. Home games are played at the Central Education Campus gym at 4:30 p.m.

The Trojans also include players from Tri-City United, Le Sueur-Henderson, Belle Plaine and Jordan high schools.

Blazing Cats 13, Trojans 0 The Trojans faced a tough Burnsville/Farmington/Lakeville team and lost 13-0. "The Blazing Cats are fast and can hit the ball," Coach Shellie Kriha said. "It was a quick game as we were not able to get many on base," Kriha added. The Trojans had just three hits, with Seth Dorner getting two and Garrett Gagner one. Defensively, the Trojans cut down on their errors, but couldn’t stop the big bats of the Blazing Cats.

Jets 22, Trojans 13 New Prague hosted South Suburban in a competitive game that went to the final innings, but came out on the short end of a 22-13 score Thursday, April 28. "We still are not hitting the ball like we would like to," Kriha said. "We know that the players are capable of hitting so much better as we see it in practice. However, when we get into the games, we are not carrying through with that. We need to start hitting the ball all the way through the line up in order to get a win."

Seth Dorner was 3-for-3 at the plate. He had a great game leading off the order and getting on base. Brookelyn Skluzacek got on base three times all due to walks. Garrett Gagner was 3-for-4 with all hits being doubles. Chris Pena was 2-for-3 with two doubles.

Defensively, the Trojans struggled a little more than they have in the past games.

"We had too many errors in the field that resulted in unearned runs for South Suburban. I think as the game got more intense, our players got nervous and hesitated with simple plays. The lack of experience showed in this close game. We know that they will get better with that in the future."

The score was tied going into the fifth inning but then New Prague slowly started to fade from there, scoring just one run in the final two innings.
