Bulldogs, Orioles advance in extra innings

 

All three Dakota-Rice-Scott League teams still alive in the State Class C Amateur Baseball Tournament won Saturday, moving on to the Elite Eight, with hopes of advancing to Monday’s championship game. Two of the teams - Union Hill and New Prague - needed extra innings to reach the quarterfinals. 

 

Bulldogs 7, Black Sox 6

Union Hill scored two runs in the ninth inning to tie the game and won it in the 12th inning in a 7-6 win over Carver. Eric Bisek had the big hit for Union Hill with two-run home run. and Matt Beckus had three hits for the Bulldogs. Dan Feneis started and John Krocak, draftee from Montgomery, went five innings of relief and got the win. 

 

Laker 7, Rockets 1

Faribault’s Matt Lane pitched another gem, striking out seven and allowing six hits as the Lakers defeated defending state champion Raymond 7-1. Lane also drove in Christian Von Ruden with an RBI single to score the game’s first run. 

 

Orioles 6, Skis 2

New Prague tied the game in the top of the ninth inning at 2-2, then scored four runs int eh top of the 10th to defeat Sobieski 6-2. Zach Dubanoski homered for the Orioles and James Fuerniss had two hits. New Prague managed just six hits in the game. 

Natthan Sprouls started and allowed two runs in 6-2/3 innings. Trevor Smisek, draftee from Montgomery, got the win in relief, allowing just two walks and no hits or runs in 3-1/3 innings.
