Buccaneer boys upset by Fairmont

The WEM boys basketball season ended Thursday, March 9 when Fairmont, the No. 4 seed in the South Sub-Section, downed the Bucs, 81-65 at Mankato East High School. The Cardinals shot 70 percent from the field, making 28-of-40 shots. WEM was led by senior Zac Olson, who scored 38 points and senior Dallas McBroom who added 19.The Bucs, the No. 1 seed, finished the season 24-4 overall. Fairmont will now play NRHEG, a 48-44 winner over Maple River in the other Sub-Section game Thursday. The South Sub-Section Championship will be played Monday, March 13 at 6 p.m. at MSU-Mankato.
