Bernice G. Meger, 84

Bernice G. Meger, 84, of New Prague died April 21st, 2017 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital with family by her side.

Mass of Christian Burial is set for Saturday, April 29, 2017 at 12:30 pm at The Church of St. Wenceslaus in New Prague. Friends may greet the family from 9:30 am until the time of the funeral liturgy on Saturday. A luncheon will follow mass at the Knights of Columbus Hall. Interment will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Lexington Township.

Bernice was born on December 1, 1932 in Belle Plaine Township, Scott County. She was the daughter of Anton & Alvina Laabs. Bernice went to District 37 Country School.

She was united in marriage to Joseph E. Meger on June 26, 1951 at the Church of St. Wenceslaus in New Prague. The couple made their home on a farm west of Union Hill for 60 plus years, where they raised ten children.

Bernice was a homemaker. Her bread was so great her children couldn't wait to get off the bus to eat a loaf or two! She loved to do canning with products from the garden and make homemade candy.

She loved to play bingo and cards and always had people laughing around her with her great sense of humor! She loved to embroider and sew. She made beautiful quilts, one for each of her children and one for each of her 33 grandchildren.

She will be greatly missed by her ten children: Marlene (Jeff) Radermacher of Phoenix, AZ, twin daughters, Karen VonBank of New Prague, Kathy (Ron) Kocina of Montgomery, LaDonna (Charlie) Mankowski of Rosemount, Darlene Jaycocks of Cathedral City, CA, Steve (Laurie) Meger of Belle Plaine, Cinthia (Paul) Bisek of New Prague, Janet (Steve) Walker of Madison, SD, Joe of New Prague, and Sarah (Paul) Curley of Madison, SD. She is further survived by 33 grandchildren and 77 great grandchildren; siblings: Harlan (Leona) Laabs, Willard (Joyce) Laabs, and sister-in-law Alvera Laabs, all of Belle Plaine and many nieces and nephews.

Bernice was preceeded in death by her husband, Joseph Meger, son-in-law, Steve VonBank, and two grandsons, Joseph & Michael Von- Bank; parents, Anton & Alvina Laabs; sisters, Delores Ruehling, Arvilla Noll, Mabel Bessel and brother, Jerry Laabs.
