Benefit to aid Maple Acres tenants

Several churches and businesses are working together to organize a Community Impact Night to benefit displaced tenants from the Maple Acres Apartment fire. The event will be Monday, May 15, from 5-7:30 p.m. at Pizza Ranch in New Prague. 

A fire severely damaged the 12-unit building just south of New Prague on Monday, May 8, displacing 16 adults and a number of children.

Ten percent of all sales, including carry-out and delivery, and all tips will go to provide gift cards to meet the needs of those affected. Local churches will provide volunteers for the evening. 

Hands of Friendship Thrift Store is also providing assistance to those affected and is giving each tenant a voucher. Anyone interested in donating Coborn’s or Shopko gift cards for the tenants can drop them off at Hands of Friendship for distribution.
