$25,000 raised for Veterans Memorial

More than 850 tickets were sold for Musicfest, benefitting the proposed New Prague Veterans Memorial.

The event, held at the Park Ballroom on Saturday, Feb. 10, drew a large crowd throughout the day. Eight bands performed at the event, which began at 1 p.m. and continued well into the evening. The bands were the Czech Area Concertina Club, Melinda’s Concertina Band, The Fradenburghs, the Charlie Sticha Band, the Trouba Troubadors, JAWS (Jumpin’ at the Woodside), the Revival Band and the Nite Time Boogie Band.

Linda Dvorak, a member of the Veterans Memorial Committee that organized the event, said while final numbers aren’t in, the event raised about $25,000 to help pay for the memorial, which will be built at Memorial Park, next to the New Prague Library. The target date for construction is 2020, in conjunction with a reconstruction project of New Prague’s Main Street.

Andrea Means Lehman, a member of the committee, said the turnout was great. "We absolutely had a great crowd on hand," she said.
